Professor Miguel Á. Losada Rodríguez finishes his stage as full-time Professor this course 2016/2017, although he will continue his career as Professor Emeritus at the University of Granada. The Environmental Fluid Dynamics Research Group and the Department of Structural Mechanics and Hydraulic Engineering of the University of Granada promote this tribute to Professor Losada and acknowledge his professional, educational and research trajectory. The event will be chaired by the Rector of the University of Granada.
With this aim, the September 29, 2017 will take place the meeting Tribute to Miguel A. Losada: The Engineer and the Sea . We hope that this day participate all those people who have shared with him experiences throughout his extensive and intense professional career. During this day we will especially have some of Miguel's colleagues, who will present joint achievements and efforts related to different aspects of Maritime and Coastal Engineering.
All those who are willing to attend the meeting Tribute to Miguel A. Losada are kindly invited. Attendance to the academic event is free but must be confirmed (limited capacity). This event will take place at the Conference Hall of the ETSI Caminos, Canales y Puertos, Calle Severo Ochoa s/n 18071. The building, which is located in the Fuentenueva University Campus, is a 10 min walk from the city centre.
An evening event will take place at the Sacromonte Abbey. The assistance for the number of persons (including accompanying persons) must be confirmed. The price (mandatory) is 70€ per person, which includes dinner, bus transport (round trip) from the ETSI Caminos, Canales y Puertos to the Abbey, and taking part in the gift to Miguel Á. Losada.
Its construction began in the early 17th century by the architect Pedro Sánchez on a commission from the the Archbishop of Granada, Pedro Vaca de Castro y Quiñones. The main building hosted one of the first private universities in Europe. Diverse disciplines, such as Law, Theology, Philosophy were studied there. The cloister is composed of four Tuscan columns on which moulded arches of half point rest and Corbels in the key. On the upper floor surrounding the courtyard are rectangular bays supported by pilasters. The church, extended in the 18th century, is in the shape of a Latin cross. Most noteworthy are the choir, by Francisco Díaz del Rivero at the beginning of the 17th century; the altarpiece in the main chapel, attributed to Blas Moreno; and the image of the Cristo de los Gitanos, work of José Risueño completed in 1695. On the side of the courtyard there is a museum which contains a good number of 16th and 17th century works of art, worthy specimens including the Codex of San Juan de la Cruz, Goya's portrait of Don Francisco de Saavedra, a Ptolemy world map, Generalities about Medicine by Averroes and the Lead Books of Sacromonte.

Granada is an outstanding university city in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. The 30% of its population are students, lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff directly linked to the University of Granada. Thanks to its rich historical and cultural legacy, and to the presence of a pro-active university community, Granada has firmly established itself as a vibrant multicultural study hub with a lively and warm university atmosphere. The city has been home to Iberian, Roman, Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities, all of which have left their own distinctive footprint on the city.
